Every child has inherent talent and potential to contribute positively to society
Quality education equips children to become productive members of society, reflecting the necessary social values for responsible citizenship and societal well-being
Every child has the right to be in a positive classroom environment, where they are given quality education with appropriate support, to help them unlock their full potential to become creative thinkers and problem solvers, as they move into young adulthood
It is the responsibility of every teacher to identify and address the diverse learning barriers that stand in the way of positive learning experiences of children.
Studies show that teachers in South Africa lack the appropriate knowledge, skills and confidence to deal with the realities presented by children in the classroom. Too many teachers are inadequately prepared to support learning within wide learner diversity. Poverty in particular, presents a multitude of knock-on effects, which derail the learning trajectories of too many of our children.
Thuto Trust is committed to empowering teachers to meet the diversity of learning challenges in South Africa’s classrooms, through:
Inculcating a healthy attitude to the diversity of learner needs, inherent to every classroom.
Providing experiential training to be able to identify and address diverse learning barriers.
Providing pedagogical opportunities in the classroom, to practice meeting diverse learning needs, and to provide successful learning experiences for children.
Established in 2004, Thuto Trust is an innovative education trust and registered Public Benefit and Non-Profit Organisation (PBO & NPO). We invest in deserving young people through tertiary education bursaries. With the help of donors and partners, we have invested in excess of R 50 million in over 1200 bursaries and scholarships over the past 19 years.
