with great potential to the teaching profession, to make a lasting impact on the South African schooling system.
Through our comprehensive initial teacher training programme, we are opening new doors for young people who have a passion for promoting life-long learning, equipping them with the necessary values, knowledge, and skills to be successful in providing quality education to South Africa’s children. Each of our teacher interns is recruited through a rigorous process, to identify aptitude, resilience, passion for children, and passion for life-long learning.
Thuto Trust has partnered with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) in a tripartite agreement to co-fund the participation of 35 deserving young people in the Thuto Trust internship programme.
Thuto Trust Teacher Intern development includes training in the Teaching of Literacy, Maths and Science, including training in effective methodologies for improving reading for comprehension, and effective psycho-social support needs recognition in young learners. Thuto Trust embeds the use of technology, the Tillo App, to capture extensive management data.
Thuto Trust has partnered with a number of well-resourced independent schools, to provide teacher internship opportunities to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a passion for teaching. These independent schools are sharing their best learnings with Thuto’s public school teacher interns during our monthly workshops.
Established in 2004, Thuto Trust is an innovative education trust and registered Public Benefit and Non-Profit Organisation (PBO & NPO). We invest in deserving young people through tertiary education bursaries. With the help of donors and partners, we have invested in excess of R 50 million in over 1200 bursaries and scholarships over the past 19 years.
