Position: Thuto Trust Extended Student Teacher Internship Onsite Mentors (Primary School level) POLOKWANE HUB
The Thuto Trust is an organization which supports the professional and personal development of student teacher interns.
The Trust is seeking to employ mentors who will support and mentor in-service teachers and student teacher interns within the following provinces and districts:
Limpopo: Capricorn North and Capricorn South Education Districts
A. Requirements
- A valid South African Drivers’ license.
- Must have own transport.
- A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed., PGCE) and preferably an honours degree.
- At least 10 years teaching experience in Foundation Phase and/or Intermediate Phase.
- Be registered with SACE.
- Be willing to engage in regular training, reflection sessions and supervision sessions to debrief and learn from own practice.
- Must provide regular reports as agreed and directed by Thuto Trust.
B. Knowledge and skill set required:
- Has a sound knowledge of the South African education system and has extensive experience in schools.
- Has a good working knowledge of education law and policy.
- Has an excellent knowledge of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) – Primary School level
- Has an excellent knowledge of inclusivity and differentiation in the classroom.
- Has an excellent understanding of how trauma informs learning outcomes.
- Has an excellent understanding of the impact of socio- economic factors on education of learners.
- Has a good understanding of diversity issues and how to address these issues within the school context.
- Has good knowledge of learning theories, modern pedagogies and assessment processes.
- Be able to work with empathy and professionally with student interns, with school management and educators at our schools.
- Excellent lesson / classroom observation skills and the ability to give constructive feedback to student interns.
- Has good academic skills
- Be highly organized and able to plan well.
- Has excellent communication skills.
- Has an ability to work collaboratively with team members.
- Has good IT skills – can easily use Microsoft package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), can set up meetings on Zoom, MS Teams; is confident with using Apps; can research using internet, can use social media.
- Has excellent report writing and record keeping skills.
- Has excellent facilitation skills.
- Have analytic skills.
- Can be a reflective practitioner.
